Each ring begin as sheets of solid brass—not molds, castings, or manufactured blanks. Each piece is cut, hammered and formed by hand, then carefully joined with heat and solder to create its hollow, sculptural form.
Hollow-form fabrication has roots stretching back more than 4,000 years. Ancient metalsmiths in Mesopotamia and Egypt shaped sheets of precious metal into hollow, dimensional jewelry as early as the third millennium BCE—creating substantial forms without the weight of solid metal.
Each component of these rings is individually shaped, precisely fitted, soldered and finished by hand. The result is a ring with the presence of a small sculpture and the unmistakable character of something made at the bench. Subtle variations in shape and surface are part of the process, making each ring distinctly its own.
